Trading Standards - Weights and Measures

We are required to ensure that all goods sold are correctly weighed and measured in accordance with current legislation. This is done by checking the accuracy of weighing/measuring equipment regularly, checking goods in stock are of the correct weight, investigating complaints of short measure.

Will Trading Standards staff test weighing and measuring equipment?

Yes. Trading Standards carry out routine planned visits to all business premises using weighing and measuring equipment. For instance, butchers, pubs, filling stations etc would all be inspected regularly.
