Local Development Plan Preparation
The Scottish Government has introduced a new planning system. A new style of development plan for North Ayrshire is being prepared called the "Local Development Plan" (LDP). It will replace the existing Structure and Local Plans. and will encompass mainland North Ayrshire and the islands of Arran and the Cumbraes.
A Development Plan Scheme (PDF, 2.71MB) outlines the key stages of preparing the LDP. This was reviewed in September 2011 and includes a progress report.

Latest News - 30 August 2011
Some 1,200 representations (comments in support of or in objection to content of the Plan) have been received in relation to the proposed LDP. These have now been recorded and acknowledged. Planning Officers are currently summarising the contents of all representations before preparing a response. This information will then be grouped by topic and submitted to Members for approval over the next two LDP Committee meetings (24th November 2011 and 5th March 2012). In November, comments on the following topics will be presented:

Vision & Strategic Policies

Detailed Policies (i.e. comments on planning policy for topics such as retailing, employment land, natural environment)

Site specific allocations (i.e. comments on specific proposals identified in the Plan, excluding those for new housing)

Examination
Following approval of the final responses to objections, the information will be submitted to the Scottish Government who will then appoint an independent Reporter to examine the issues and make determinations on how they should be handled. The determinations made are binding on the Council.

Main Issues Report (MIR)
The consultation period for the MIR ran from 22nd January to 19th March 2010. A wide range of comments and submissions were received and these have informed the preparation of the Proposed Plan.
