The Royal Commission of Architectural & Historic Monuments Scotland (RCAHMS) maintains a list of Scheduled Ancient Monuments. These are recommended for scheduling and controlled by Historic Scotland.
If you intend to develop near a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the proposals will be assessed for their impact on the monument's setting.
Designed Landscapes and Gardens & Local Landscapes
Historic Scotland keep a record of nationally important gardens and designed landscapes. These could be important because of their unique artistic value, rare or valuable plant collections or for their value to wildlife. In addition the Garden History Society identifies landscapes of local historic importance.
Again, if you are proposing a development that will significantly affect such an area, proposals will be carefully assessed.
