Safe Delivery and Storage of Petrol
We are responsible for the licensing of petrol filling stations and any other premises which store petroleum spirit for dispensing into internal combustion engines .
The licences are issued on a 1, 2 or 3 year basis with the required fee being dependant on the amount of fuel stored.
Licensees must adhere to the standard licence conditions which aim to ensure safety at all sites where petroleum spirit is delivered, stored and dispensed .
Inspections are carried out at licensed premises by this department to ensure compliance .

Did you know
It is an offence to store petrol at home other than in approved containers and in small quantities. You can do the following:
5 Litre Plastic Can + 10 Litre Metal Can
OR
5 Litre plastic Can + 5 Litre Plastic Can
Approved Cans should be: -

clearly marked "petrol" or "petroleum spirits" and "highly flammable"

Leak proof and of suitable material

State and comply with S.I 1982/630 if plastic
