Accidents

Certain work related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences require to be reported to the local authority by the employer of the injured person. This is required by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR). Reporting is required when :-

  • A death or major injury occurs;
  •  An injury results in an employee being absent from work for over 3 days;
  •  An employee has been diagnosed as suffering from a work related disease.

The local authority must be notified without delay in the event of a death, dangerous occurrence or a major injury and in any event within 10 days by the completion of an F2508 notification form. The completion of F2508 can be done by contacting the HSE Incident Contact Centre and providing them with the details of the accident. The completed F2508 will then be directed to the relevant enforcing authority for the premises where the incident occurred.
